The Caregiver Foundation

Rev. Clarence Liu

Clarence Liu

was born at the end of World War II, “a distant world from today where my grandchildren giggle that my iphone is “smarter” than me!” From his boyhood parish in Kailua, he left home to train for ministry, first locally on the Windward side of the Pali, then to the Bay Area in California, to finish studies in theology at Berkeley. He pastored in Central Oahu churches before finding his niche in clinical chaplaincy with the homeless, then at the State Hospital and finally, retired from Hospice Hawaii in 2012.

“I have taken my place in life as one who stumbled into the ancient art of providing “care for souls.” That description captures something of the mystery of the world I move in, the skills I’ve honed, and the life of the spirit that sustains me. I feel blessed and deeply grateful for my 73 years of life, my wife and family and all who have shared their sacred stories with me.”
